BARKERS ISLAND BEACH RESTORATION

AMI designed the 6.74-acre Barker’s Island Beach Restoration project in Superior, Wisconsin. Designs included improvements to stormwater and waste management to mitigate potential bacterial sources and improve water quality. The project aimed to improve stormwater management by decreasing impervious surfaces and using pervious pavement for additional parking, enhancing wetlands through native vegetation plantings, increase infiltration through vegetated swales along the new pervious boardwalk, beach, and shoreline, and improve grade and condition of beach sand. To help improve proper waste disposal, a restroom facility, pet waste stations, and additional garbage receptacles were designed.
