AMI provided engineering services for a shoreline restoration project focused on recovering land lost to erosion and protecting the shoreline from future impacts.

AMI performed an initial site visit to determine the extents of the shoreline damage. A coastal engineer/certified drone pilot took photos of the existing shoreline and documented damages around the property. Historical imagery of the property was reviewed, and a solution was discussed with the Owner. A proposal was submitted to the Owner to perform the following services: topographic surveying, permitting, engineering/drafting, preconstruction meeting, and special inspections during construction. An estimated construction cost for the design was provided to the Owner prior to starting work.

Following the topographic surveying, preliminary design drawings to restore the land lost due to erosion were submitted to the Owner for review and comments. In order to finalize the design, AMI performed wave overtopping calculations using several references to determine the minimum elevation hard armoring would be required to protect the property from climate change events over a minimum of 50 years. Above this elevation AMI worked with the Owner and County on selecting native vegetation plantings to restore the vegetation line along the Lake. Permits were submitted to the county, MnDNR, MPCA, and Army Corp. of Engineers. AMI provided the Owner with required documentation from the permitting agencies following the approved permits.

Once the construction drawings were completed, and signed off by the permitting agencies, AMI provided the final documents to Nordic Group (AMI’s Sister Construction Company) who provided a proposal to the Owner for the construction repairs. If the Owner would prefer to get multiple bids, AMI has worked with the Owner to provide the construction documents to multiple contractors that the Owner can choose from.

AMI worked with the contractor to coordinate construction scheduling with the Owner. During construction, AMI performed special inspections during the installation of critical components of the design to document any adjustments or field engineering performed. Once the construction work was completed, AMI performed a final walk through with the Owner and Contractor to make sure all items were completed as discussed and if additional work was required.
