Structural Engineering BIM Technician

AMI Consulting Engineers, PA is seeking a Structural Engineering BIM Technician to support the planning, design, and delivery of structural, marine, waterfront, and civil engineering projects in the Pensacola area. This role is responsible for developing accurate Building Information Models (BIM), technical drawings, and construction documents that translate engineering concepts, calculations, and design criteria into coordinated, constructible plans. Working closely with project managers and engineers, the BIM Technician plays a key role in supporting permitting, bidding, and construction activities by ensuring the accuracy, quality, and coordination of project documentation.

This role requires proficiency in Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD, a strong understanding of engineering drafting principles, and the ability to maintain high standards of quality while managing multiple project assignments. The technician will contribute throughout the project lifecycle, from preliminary concepts and design development through final construction documents and construction support.

In addition to drafting responsibilities, the Structural Engineering BIM Technician participates in multidisciplinary coordination, assists with maintaining company BIM and CAD standards, and helps improve drawing efficiency and consistency across projects. The position offers opportunities to expand technical knowledge through direct collaboration with licensed Professional Engineers on a diverse range of infrastructure projects, including marine terminals, waterfront structures, industrial facilities, bridges, and municipal infrastructure.

Over time, the technician will be expected to take increasing ownership of project production, coordinate directly with engineers across multiple disciplines, and contribute to the ongoing development of AMI's drafting and BIM capabilities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate degree, technical certificate, or equivalent education in drafting, engineering technology, architecture, or a related field.

  • 2-5 years of experience using Revit, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar design software.

  • Strong knowledge of engineering drafting standards and construction documentation principles.

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, markups, specifications, and technical instructions.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong attention to detail with effective organizational and time management abilities.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a project team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using Autodesk Construction Cloud for project collaboration and model coordination.

  • Experience performing clash detection, model review, and coordination.

  • Experience working with point cloud models.

  • Experience using Dynamo for Revit to automate modeling tasks and improve project efficiency.

  • Experience with Bluebeam Revu for document review, markup and construction document management.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop construction drawings utilizing Revit and AutoCAD for marine, industrial, and heavy civil infrastructure projects.

  • Create plans, elevations, sections, details, and schedules from engineering calculations, sketches, design criteria, and redline markups.

  • Maintain organized project files, drawing registers, BIM models, and sheet sets throughout project lifecycles.

  • Coordinate with engineers and project managers to ensure drawing accuracy and project requirements are met.

  • Participate in internal QA/QC reviews to ensure compliance with company standards and project specifications.

  • Assist with the development and maintenance of BIM standards, CAD standards, templates, title blocks, and project workflows.

  • Support multidisciplinary coordination efforts and clash detection activities.

  • Collaborate with engineers to improve design efficiency through BIM best practices, automation tools, and standardized drafting procedures.

  • Provide production support throughout all project phases, from conceptual design through construction documentation.

  • Develop high-quality 3D models, visualizations, and renderings using software such as SketchUp, Lumion, or similar visualization platforms.

  • Assist with site inspections as needed.
