SAPPI PULP MILL CONVERSION

AMI provided project management services to a large pulp & paper customer during their chemical cellulose pulp mill conversion. AMI served as project manager for a substantial portion of the $170 million dollar project.

AMI was responsible for implementing upgrades necessary to increase the plant’s liquor filtering and slaking capacities as well as the replacement of the woodroom infeed handling systems, deicing conveyor, and bark removal systems. The project included the installation of new green and white liquor filtering equipment; additional causticizing equipment; installation of a 2.75 cord electric pedestal mounted wood handling crane; three rotary debarkers capable of debarking 6000 tons per day; and significant modifications to the infeed conveying and deicing systems.

In addition to increasing throughput of the mill, the project significantly improved bark removal efficiency while minimizing white wood fiber loss. The fast track project was completed on budget and startup was accomplished ahead of schedule.
